Tower Bridge
on River Thames,
Tower Bridge is one of
London’s recognisable and
famous landmark.
Tower Bridge is located near the Tower of
London from which it got its name.
Built-in Victorian Gothic style, the bridge was
designed by Sir Horace Jones, in collaboration
with John
Wolfe Barry. The bridge was opened on 30th June 1894.
The proximity of the harbour required the bridge to
allow the passage
of large vessels. Hence, the decision Was made to create a
moveable
The Bridge which could be opened to accommodate boat
traffic.
Earlier, the machine that lifted bascules were
hydraulic stream machines. In 1976, Tower Bridge switched from steam power to
electricity.
